This article will attempt to identify the basis upon which United Nations Peacekeeping Operations have been justified and founded, since the beginning of the 20th century, through the use of force to ensure the maintenance of international peace and security. This work approaches the development of a theory, which explains the legal restrictions of UN rules concerning sovereignty and its own limits of power with regard to Peacekeeping Operations, while there is no explicit provision in the UN Charter. The adopted methodology is linked to the deductive-logic method, observing the historicity of the phenomenon and the legality of Peacekeeping Operations, in terms of the use of force in the international environment, using a wide base of research literature.
